The Singasari are not an empire. A motley collection of quasi-democratic city states, their culture doesn’t deign to reduce flight to a set of books. Their fleet actions can seem erratic or inspired depending on the perspective of the viewer, and are usually quite perplexing even in retrospect. No one is ever quite sure, exactly, to what advantage or objective a Singasari crew will manoeuvre – and they collectively seem to prefer it that way. That their symbol is the sanguine Garuda is therefore of no surprise to anyone.
